In the Heart of the Forest

My experience in the southern forests of Slovenia, which are surrounded by mountains of white rocks, with the purpose of observing and photographing the European brown bear turned into a memorable, exhilarating experience.
The journey was fraught with fairly long walks in sloped mountain trails, often spiced by heavy rains, thunder and lightning, making us even more cautious of every next step we took.
After this adventure, I have come to believe that bears are as mistaken as wolves in the public opinion—misunderstood and judged wrongly. Being to the heights of Markovec Forest allowed me to study the brown bear closely, working out how Slovenians maintain a peaceful coexistence with the bear, leading to the revival of the population of this particular species in the area.
